OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS WEEKLY GLANCE
(For June 6-12, 2012)

Leaderboards change at 2012 USBC Open Championships
Will Smith of Albany, Ore., made a run at the Regular Singles lead at the 2012 United States Bowling Congress Open Championships this week before settling into fourth place with a 782 total.

Smith struck 30 times on the way to games of 268, 267 and 247 at the Baton Rouge River Center in Baton Rouge, La., on June 8, but two open frames left him short of Henry Teetz III of West Allis, Wis., who has held the Regular Singles lead with 800 since April 1.

Smith added 645 in team and 566 in doubles for a 1,993 all-events total. Matt McNiel of Prior Lake, Minn., who is the only bowler in 109 years of tournament history with three 800 series on the championship lanes, leads Regular All-Events with 2,202.

Mark Blasius of Terrell, Texas, also made a run at the Regular Singles lead June 11 and flirted with the tournament's first perfect game since May 8. A 3-10 split on his 11th shot left him with a 288 game, which came between games of 224 and 267.

Blasius moved into fifth place with a 779 series and added 631 in team and 597 in doubles for a 2,007 all-events total.

In Regular All-Events, 2003 Regular Doubles champion Derek Sapp of Keokuk, Iowa, shot 731 in doubles, 719 in singles and 645 in team for a 2,095 all-events total June 12.
The three-time Team USA member averaged 241 during doubles and singles to catapult him into ninth place.

In Regular Doubles, Dave and Wayne Cooper of Pensacola, Fla., moved into 10th place with a 1,418 total June 12. Dave led the way with games of 257, 244 and 267 for a 768 series, while Wayne contributed 244, 225 and 181 for 650. McNiel and Charles Vashaw of Deephaven, Minn., lead Regular Doubles with 1,489.
